I heard a rumor that ALDI is expanding and will be closed the month of April 2019 — also that they had already started on the ground work. Any truth in this rumor?
According to the Community Development Department, ALDI Grocery Store, located at 2553 S.E. Washington Blvd., has submitted plans for a remodel/expansion, though work on the expansion has not yet started. It is anticipated permits will be issued once a contractor has been selected, and that work will begin in February 2019 on the exterior remodel, which should take approximately five weeks to complete. The store will remain open during this phase. Interior work is expected to take about three weeks, during which the store will be closed for at least part of the duration. Plans indicate the store will add approximately 4,000 square feet of floor space, a deli area and refrigeration, as well as make improvements to the exterior of the store.
What happened to kill the pine trees by the parking lot for Jo Allen Lowe Park on Price Road?
According to Park Superintendent Bobby Robinson, the trees in question are not pine trees but rather bald cypress trees, also known as the Taxodium distichum. Either way, the trees are deciduous, meaning they shed their leaves in the winter. All will be well next spring.
