According to the September sales tax report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission, revenue for sales tax was up for the period while use tax saw a decrease compared to the same period last year, Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer/City Clerk Jason Muninger said Monday.
“Sales tax revenue was $2,018,649, which is up $158,000 — or 8.5 percent — compared to September 2023,” Muninger said.
The collections are 4.7 percent, or $270,000 over budgetary expectation.
Use tax, which is sales tax applied to online sales, was down $26,000, or 6.4 percent, compared to the same period last year.
“It’s important to remember that we don’t have a solid handle on how use tax revenue is going to perform long-term because that tax was just implemented in January 2023,” Muninger said. “It will take another year or two of those collections to give us an accurate picture of what we can reasonably expect where use tax is concerned. But despite this decrease, use tax collections for the year are 7.4 percent, or $81,000, over budgetary expectations.”
