Sooner, Frontier pools, splash pads open

Jun 4, 2024

The City-owned Sooner and Frontier pools are open and splash pads at both pools, in addition to the one in Johnstone Park, are up and running, Public Works Director Keith Henry said this week.

Frontier Pool opened Memorial Day weekend but opening Sooner was delayed due to a water leak.

“We weren’t able to open Sooner pool to the public until Monday, but it is open now,” Henry said. “The slides and the splash pad there are operational as well.”

The Frontier Splash Pad had some issues but is fully functioning now, Henry said.

“We had a spray nozzle on one of the features that wasn’t working correctly, and the tool we needed to fix it was broken,” he said. “The manufacturer wasn’t able to help us immediately, so we reached out to the Precision Machinery Department at Tri County Tech. They were able to fix the tool very quickly. Our thanks to PM Instructor James Cowart for his help. Thanks to him, we had the feature repaired and back online in no time.”

Sooner and Frontier pools are owned and maintained by the City but are managed and operated by the Richard Kane YMCA. For more information about pool programs and operations, visitwww.rkymca.org/OutdoorPools.
