A ceremony honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s military members is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, May 26, at White Rose Cemetery.
Boy Scout Troop 6 Assistant Scoutmaster Pete King will present the colors and Father Nick Phares, a Navy veteran, of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will offer the invocation. Rep. John B. Kane will serve as guest speaker for the service. Jason Elmore will read the names of veterans, and Washington County Honor Guard will perform a rifle presentation.
Mayor Jim Curd will dedicate a newly placed monument near the White Rose gazebo which honors Washington County military who were killed in action in World War I and II, but whose bodies were not recovered.
As in past years, American flags have been placed on each veteran’s grave by Boy Scout Troop 6, sponsored by the American Legion Post 105.
A Memorial Day ceremony has been held at the City of Bartlesville-owned White Rose Cemetery for more than a century.
The event is free, and the community is invited to attend. White Rose Cemetery is located at 11th Street and Virginia Avenue.
