The City Council has officially approved an exciting new initiative designed to promote local entrepreneurship and innovation. Managed by the Park Board, the Start-Up Incubation Program will transform a 500-square-foot building in Centennial Park into a launchpad for small businesses and start-ups. The program received unanimous support from the Park Board during its November 2024 meeting.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Start-Up Incubation Program repurposes a compact facility in Centennial Park to provide an affordable, short-term platform for entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life. The building features one room and a restroom, making it ideal for uses such as retail, gallery or showroom space, and other small-scale operations. While rent and city services will be offered free of charge, tenants will be responsible for electricity, either by setting up their own account or covering costs charged back by the City.
HOW IT WORKS
- Six-Month Lease Period: Tenants can utilize the space for six months, ensuring a consistent rotation of new businesses and opportunities for fresh community engagement.
- Application Process: Businesses will be selected based on feasibility, community impact, and alignment with the space’s limitations. Applicants must submit a detailed business plan, including goals, marketing strategies, and financial projections, as part of a structured application form.
- Lease Terms: The agreement covers responsibilities such as maintenance, operational hours, and compliance with municipal regulations, ensuring clarity and accountability.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The Start-Up Incubation Program aims to:
- Drive economic growth by nurturing local businesses.
- Attract more visitors to Centennial Park.
- Reinforce the park’s role as a vibrant community hub.
