Several projects are underway throughout the City of Bartlesville. Following is an update on some of them:
New lighting at Daniels Fields
Eight 100-foot light poles have been installed at Daniels Soccer Fields, making them the only lighted soccer fields in Bartlesville. The project includes eight laser-aimed fixtures per pole, which have been installed around the perimeter of the fields.
Daniels Soccer Fields consists of a cricket field and two soccer fields at the Lee Lake Complex on Adams Boulevard. Voters approved $350,000 in funding for the lighting system as a designated project in the 2018 General Obligation Bond Election.
Price Road Rehab ongoing
The ongoing Price Road Rehabilitation Project has switched from east-bound lane focus to the west-bound lane. That means motorists heading east from the roundabout now have a clear shot to U.S. Highway 75 while those heading west will need to find another route. Nowata Road and Rice Creek Road are good options.
Contract crews (Grade Line Construction) are working on one lane for a half mile at a time. The west-bound lane will likely be closed for one and a half to two months — then work begins to install asphalt shoulders. After that begins what is called a dowel joint retrofit, but flag people will be used for that portion of the project rather than lane closures.
The entire project should wrap up sometime in June, according to Director of Engineering Micah Siemers.
Palmetto concrete panel replacement starts
This project, which consists of concrete panel replacement on Palmetto between Sooner Road and Virginia Avenue, started Monday and should be complete in approximately two months.
The rehabilitation includes approximately 3,125 square yards of concrete panel replacement and 364 feet of curb and gutter replacement. The City Council in February approved a contract with KSL Dirt Works to complete work on the project at a cost of $276,045. The project is one of the City’s preventative maintenance projects approved as part of the 2018-19 Fiscal Year Capital Budget.
Mountain Road almost done
Asphalt work on the mill and overlay project should be complete in the next two weeks. A leveling course of asphalt was laid last week with the top second overlay to be finished up the first part of this week. Striping should get underway soon to finish out the project.
16th Street & Stonewall projects to start soon
This is actually two projects lumped together: Stonewall from US-75 to about 1/4-mile west and 16th Street between Hillcrest Drive and Shawnee Avenue. The project consists of concrete repair and replacement on both streets. The portion of 16th Street between Hillcrest and Shawnee will be almost completely rebuilt other than the curb and gutter and will include some concrete panel replacement on Shawnee as well. The Stonewall portion is less intensive.
The start date has not been determined yet. It is likely work will begin on Stonewall sometime in May, while the 16th Street work will be delayed until school is out for the summer. Both projects should conclude prior to school starting in the fall.
Johnstone Park/Kiddie Park could wrap up by May 1
Work on several projects is underway near Kiddie Park, an amusement park for youngsters located in the City-owned Johnstone Park.
Work on the nearby parking lot, which will add 30 new spaces for park-goers, is about 80 percent complete, Siemers said Monday. Other additions include voter-approved fencing and a decorative entryway for Kiddie Park, road re-striping and an extension of the Pathfinder trail into the park.
The projects are expected to wrap up by May 1 — hopefully prior to Kiddie Park opening for the summer season.
Adams Golf Course bunker repair to start this week
Bunker repairs at the City-owned Adams Golf Course should start this week. The project consists of replacing the sand and subdrains at the course’s green side bunkers. The project also includes reshaping the bunkers, making some adjustments to the edges and adding a bunker liner under the new sand.
The contractor, United Golf LLC of Tulsa, graciously offered discounted services on the project. That, along with fundraising efforts spear-headed by golf pro Jerry Benedict have resulted in a premium project at a cost savings to taxpayers, including the addition of white sand instead of tan.
The project is a discretionary project included in the voter-approved 2018 General Obligation Bond Election. Work on the project is expected to take about six week.
Police, fire memorial set for construction by May 15
The City Council recently approved a contract for work on a police and fire memorial at the Bartlesville Public Safety Complex, located on Johnstone Avenue. The memorial consists of constructing a small concrete plaza with landscaping, flag poles and a granite monument in the space between the new police building and the renovated Central Fire Station.
The contractor is set to begin work Wednesday or Thursday of this week and has a hard deadline to be substantially complete by May 15, in time for Peace Officers Memorial Day.
