The Bartlesville City Council on Monday approved a multi-family rezoning that will pave the way for new student housing in the Silver Lake Road and Price Road area.

The request, made by Keleher Architects on behalf of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, was considered by the City Planning Commission on Feb. 27. The CPC voted unanimously to recommend final approval to the council.

On Monday, the council voted 4-0 to rezone 4.27 acres from RS-12 (Single Family Residential) to RM-3 (Multifamily Residential)/PUD (Planned Unit Development), and for approval of a PUD Site Development Plan on the property, which is located north of the northeast corner of Silver Lake Road and Price Road, between Hill Drive and Parkway Street.

There are currently eight single family residential structures on the property. The majority of the properties are used by the university for housing about 70 students, said Community Development Director Larry Curtis. The proposal is to construct eight two-story quadplex structures with 32 total dwelling units, which would house up to 128 students.

“The intention with these requests is to develop the property in a manner that would better serve the housing needs of the university,” Curtis said.
