CityRide to offer $1 fares for workers beginning August 27

August 24, 2018

In conjunction with Labor day, Bartlesville workers will be eligible for $1 fares when taking one-way trips on CityRide — the City of Bartlesville’s public transportation system — to or from work or school beginning Aug. 27, Cimarron Public Transit System officials said recently.

CPTS is a program of the United Community Action Program, which operates CityRide and several other public transit programs in Oklahoma.

According to UCAP Transit Director Laura Corff, the reduced fares are a way for the agency to help working individuals who depend on CityRide for transportation to or from work or school.

“This is a way for us to pay tribute to American workers, who contribute so much of the nation’s strength, freedom and leadership,” Corff said. “The lack of transportation can be a real barrier to obtaining and maintaining employment for many people who don’t have a valid driver’s license, are unable or unwilling to drive or cannot afford to buy or maintain a vehicle. So we feel it is appropriate to initiate this program in alignment with Labor Day.”

Corff said the reduced fares will be available at least through Oct. 31.

“Staff anticipates the program will be available to eligible riders through the end of October,” she said. “At that time, staff will review the project, take input from the users and consider extending the project through the end of the year.”

To qualify for the reduced fares, riders must complete a WorkRide form. Forms are available through drivers or can be completed over the phone. Corff said the promotion is not income based and anyone can qualify.

CityRide service is available 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Limited Saturday service is also available. To schedule a ride, contact the dispatcher between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 918-336-2233. Rides are scheduled on a first call basis, subject to availability. Riders with regular schedules are welcome to set up a “standing” appointment, Corff said.
