ODOT continues work on US-75/US-60 bridge

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation advised city staff recently that a traffic switch was done on the Highway 75 overpass last week so that contract crews could begin building the north half of the bridge, a project that has been ongoing for several weeks.

“ODOT’s project to replace the existing overpass bridge at Adams Boulevard and Washington Boulevard has passed a major milestone,” said City Director of Engineering Micah Siemers. “They have completed work on the south half of the bridge and have switched traffic to facilitate work on replacing the north half of the bridge.”

Siemers said the the project consists of replacing the existing bridge that did not provide enough vertical clearance to truck traffic on US-75.

“The bridge had been hit multiple times prior to this project,” he said. “The south half of the bridge was removed and replaced providing better clearance. After switching traffic, the contractor will begin removing the north half of the bridge so they can reconstruct that part as well.”

ODOT says the project is expected to take several more months.

According to ODOT, there will be bridge demolition on the north part of the bridge every week night, starting this week, but the plan is to be finished with demo work by the end of next week. The Northbound US-75 ramp to Westbound US-60 will be closed for the remainder of the bridge construction, which should be around mid to late April. The schedule has shifted several times due to weather and more delays could occur between now and the end of the project, ODOT said.
