Q&A: Tuxedo Bridge, Jimmy’s Egg, 5 Below & other updates

July 25, 2023

Can you please give an update on the repairs to the bridge on Tuxedo Blvd over the Caney River? The westbound lane has been restricted to one lane for months and months.

What happened was: The Caney River Bridge has been limited to one lane for westbound traffic since January, when a pothole in the inside lane required temporary repair. The reason a more permanent solution wasn’t made is that the bridge was already set to receive a $1.2 million rehabilitation, funding for which was approved by voters in the 2020 General Obligation Bond Election. So it seemed a better use of taxpayer funds to address the problems with the bridge at one time, during the rehabilitation project.

Where we are now: Funding for the rehabilitation project has been issued and plans were recently completed. Engineering staff is in the process of finalizing the plans, and the project should be ready to bid in September. Construction is expected to start later this year and will take about a year to complete.
