Q&A: Yard repairs for fiber projects & closures at City-owned ball fields

June 10, 2022

Several games at the City’s sports fields have been canceled this season due to rain. How, exactly, are closures determined?

According to Parks Superintendent Bobby Robinson, City-owned baseball, softball, soccer and cricket fields are closed when:

  • They cannot be worked with equipment due to water saturation
  • They are so water-logged that they cannot be walked on without leaving tracks
  • When the sound of slushing water can be heard when walking on them

Fields are evaluated by noon and checked for playability no later than 2 p.m. daily. Parks Department staff then notifies the Richard Kane YMCA, which operates all City-owned fields, as well as Sooner and Frontier swimming pools, of any closures. For more information, contact the YMCA at 918.336.0713.

Get off my lawn

Is there a schedule for when the people laying cable lines are going to come back and repair the lawns they tore up?

There’s no schedule, per se, but City Construction Inspector James Cutler says a rough timeline of four to six weeks should be expected for the clean-up work to be completely finished by the two companies currently laying fiber-optic cable in Bartlesville. (More information on this here: The lowdown on fiber installation in Bartlesville.) So if your yard hasn’t been restored after, say, six to eight weeks, you can contact Cutler at 918.331.8876 to help get the ball rolling.

Paint disposal: 2023 OCH

Where can cans of paint be disposed of in Bartlesville?

The only place to dispose of paint  in Bartlesville is during the Operation Clean House event, typically held around Earth Day in the spring. The pandemic messed it up for a couple of years — it was cancelled in 2020 and held later in the year in 2021 — so the event wasn’t held this year but will return to its typical spring schedule in 2023.

Code complaint form info

How does one go about reporting violations of ‘Natural Lands?’

You can report this or any other City code violation by filling out a complaint form on the City website. Here’s a link (scroll down): https://www.cityofbartlesville.org/community-development/neighborhood-services/ Be sure to include your name and phone number so Neighborhood Services can contact you for more information, if needed.

Hey, how about a restaurant there?

Any plans to put a restaurant by the lake across from Lowe’s?

Sorry, there are no plans to construct a restaurant (or anything else) at the City-owned Lee Lake Complex.
