Recycling: Just the FAQs

The basics

Does the City have a recycling program?

The City of Bartlesville owns a City Recycling Center, located on 10th Street about one block east of Virginia Ave. The center serves as a permanent “host site” for Replenysh, a California-based company with which the City began contracting for services in 2021. The City is only one of the company’s recycling host sites in Bartlesville. To learn about other sites, see Replenysh’s Bartlesville Facebook page.

When is the City Recycling Center open?

The City center is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is closed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, weekends, and holidays. Other host sites may (and likely do) have different hours. These sites are not connected to the City or its recycling center in any way, so the City does not maintain or publicize information about them.

Is the City center manned?

While not continually manned, Public Works staff monitor the center as they are able throughout the day to ensure that trash isn’t dumped and that items are properly sorted, at least as much as that sort of thing is possible to oversee.

Why isn’t the City center open on weekends?

Attempts were made in the past to allow access to the center during evening and weekend hours to better accommodate local recyclers, but that practice was stopped several years ago due to the dumping of non-permitted items, including trash, garbage, furniture and other non-recyclable materials.

How to do it

What materials are accepted at the City site?

While accepted items may vary from one host site to another, items accepted at the City Recycle Center are:

  • Plastic PET #1 containers
  • Plastic PET #1 thermoforms
  • Plastic HDPE #2 containers
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel cans
  • Cardboard
  • Glass

Do recyclers need to sort items before or when dropping items off?

Yes, they do. To ensure that recycling continues to be an option in Bartlesville, recyclers should do their part and sort appropriately — not only for the City’s center but all Replenysh host sites in Bartlesville. Cardboard should be flattened, lids removed, and make sure materials are put into the appropriate containers.
