Street, guardrail projects could cause delays

August 13, 2018

Several projects underway will result in some lane closures this week — some of which could cause traffic delays, Director of Engineering Micah Siemers said last week.

Guardrail Replacement Project

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s U.S. Highway 60 Guardrail Replacement Project continues with ODOT contract crews set to begin work Tuesday, Aug. 14, on the inside of the northbound U.S. Highway 75 to the westbound U.S. Highway 60 ramp.

“They will be placing asphalt for the new guardrail installation,” Siemers said. “A flagman will be used for intermittent closures to the ramp while asphalt trucks are accessing the work zone. Motorists should expect traffic to back up on U.S.-75 during this portion of the project and use an alternative route, if possible.”

The Guardrail Replacement Project began last month and is expected to wrap up later this month or early September.

Tuxedo Rehabilitation Project

Work started last month on the Tuxedo Boulevard Pavement Rehabilitation project, which consists of pavement rehabilitation on Tuxedo Boulevard between the Caney River Bridge and Madison Boulevard.

KSL Dirtworks will be laying asphalt on the eastbound lanes of Tuxedo Boulevard between the Caney River and U.S. Highway 75 starting Tuesday, Aug. 14. The asphalt work will carry over into Wednesday, Aug. 15, Siemers said.

“Due to the lane widths, two-way traffic will be necked down to one lane around the immediate area of work as the paving machine and workers will encroach upon a few feet of the temporary eastbound lane,” he said. “Flagmen will keep two-way traffic open for these intermittent lane closures, though it will cause delays due to waiting for oncoming traffic to clear the lane.”

Motorists are asked to use an alternate route if possible next Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 14-15). The Tuxedo Rehabilitation Project is funded through the voter-approved 2012 General Obligation Bond. It is anticipated the project will be completed in late October.

 Johnstone Concrete Rehabilitation

Work on the Johnstone Avenue Concrete Rehabilitation Project was set to start Aug. 13. The project consists of replacing concrete panels and portions of curb and gutter on Johnstone Avenue between 14th and 17th streets.

“Initial work will consist of mobilizing equipment and materials, but motorists should expect detours along portions of Johnstone between 14th and 17th streets starting next week,” Siemers said.

The contractor has 40 working days to complete the work, which excludes weekends, City holidays and any weather delays, Siemers said.

“Work should be completed by the middle of October, if all goes well,” he said.
