September 7, 2018

The Bartlesville Fire Department Honor Guard will pay tribute to those who lost their lives during a terrorist attack on New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, during a special ceremony on Tuesday.

The ceremony is set to begin at 9 a.m. and will be held at Central Fire Station, 601 S. Johnstone Ave. in downtown Bartlesville.

“On this day 17 years ago, 19 members of Al Qaeda hijacked four U.S. commercial airplanes and crashed them into the north and south towers of the  World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington DC and a field in Shanksville, Pa.,” said Bartlesville Fire Chief John Banks. “A total of 2,977 people were killed, including 343 Firefighters, 23 New York City police officers and 37 officers at the Port Authority.”

The ceremony will last approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome to do so.
