Copeland, Kane elected mayor, vice mayor; new term begins

council-swearing-in-2016Dale Copeland will serve as Bartlesville mayor and John J. Kane will hold the vice mayor position following a vote of the City Council on Monday.

Members of the Bartlesville City Council were sworn into office during the regularly scheduled meeting, kicking off the council’s new two-year term. In accordance with the City Charter, first on the agenda for the new council was to elect a mayor and vice mayor. The council voted 5-0 to elect Copeland mayor and Kane vice mayor.

Three councilors are returning to the Council after running unopposed for re-election in November, although two now represent different wards thanks to ward boundaries being redrawn earlier this year to more accurately balance ward populations.

Copeland, who previously represented Ward 5, now represents Ward 1, Kane continues to represent Ward 2, and Dr. Joseph Callahan, who previously represented Ward 4, now represents Ward 5.

Incoming councilors Jim Curd represents Ward 3, and Alan Gentges represents Ward 4. Both were elected to their seats in the Nov. 8 election.

The City Council meets the first Monday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone Ave. Special meetings are called as needed. Meeting are televised by Cable One and live streamed on the City’s webcast.
