Q&A: No market for recyclable glass

March 13, 2018

When will Bartlesville Recycling begin accepting glass containers? Until the city will take glass containers, where can we legally take our glass containers for recycling?

The City of Bartlesville provides a recycle center at 10th Street and Virginia Avenue for the collection of recyclable materials. The items collected at the center are later transported by City staff to Tulsa Recycle & Transfer (TRT) in Tulsa. TRT does not accept glass; therefore, the City cannot accept it at the center.

According to Public Works Director Keith Henry, many companies (including TRT) do not accept glass because there is no market for it, which impacts sales revenue. City staff is not aware of a location that accepts glass containers for recycling.

The City site is open 6:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The center is closed on Sundays and holidays. For more information, see www.cityofbartlesville.org.
