Bartlesville Police Explorers program

The objective of the Bartlesville Police Explorers is to provide an in-depth, first-hand experience into all related fields of law enforcement. All Explorer training is in accordance with the by-laws and guidelines of the Explorer Division of the Boy Scouts of America and the Bartlesville Police Department.

Purpose
Our commitment is to improve relations between police officers and the youth in the City of Bartlesville through a close working relationship with youth who have expressed an interest in or are curious about police work. To allow Explorers an opportunity to become closely involved with police work through specialized training, special details and community programs and service. The program provides for young people to serve the community, develop leadership skills and provides an attitude of support from peers and adults during the maturing process.

 Eligibility & membership
Any person who is at least 14 and has completed the eighth grade, or who is 15 but not more than 20 may apply for membership to the Bartlesville Police Explorers. A maximum age of 20 will be accepted if the Explorer is living at home with parents and has continued his/her education. Membership into the Post is achieved by attending two consecutive Post meetings and successfully completing an oral interview. At regular scheduled Post meetings, police explorers have the opportunity to learn first-hand, through an academic, recreational and social program, all areas of law enforcement, with a hands-on approach that gives young adults the opportunity to work along side police officers and learn important facts about police work that would assist them in making a decision about a career in law enforcement.

Uniforms
Explorer uniforms are police style and are provided by the Bartlesville Police Explorers. The uniform is to be worn in accordance with the standard operating policies and procedures of the Bartlesville Police Explorers Post 2117. Additional equipment provided by Explorer Post 2117 includes the following: Uniform patches, badge and collar brass. Explorer uniform maintenance is the sole responsibility of each member and the uniform remains the property of the Bartlesville Police Department.

Activities
As a Bartlesville Police Explorer you will have the opportunity to participate in classroom training, practical exercises, tours, traffic control, fundraisers, several aspects of serving the community, and much more.
